"I’ve met many Sri Lankans here and I feel at home.’’

Hi, I'm Sumali Harshani Ihalagama, from Kurunegala in Sri Lanka, and I’m studying MSc Civil Engineering and Environmental Management. I chose to study at USW because USW is an environment friendly university and there are many amenities around. Treforest campus is not far away from the capital of Wales named Cardiff and another town is near to the university named Pontypridd. Access is easy with public transport to the campus.

The MSc in Civil Engineering and Environmental Management is one of the best courses in USW. The lecturers in the School of Engineering and are very helpful with every task. The study is stress-free due to the guidance of the university team even though I’m still adjusting here.

There’s a Starbucks on campus!

THE FOOD, CULTURE AND PEOPLE ARE VERY DIFFERENT HERE BUT IT'S EASY TO ADAPT.

MSc Civil Engineering and Environmental Management

I have experienced lovely nature in south Wales. There are many places to visit such as the Brecon Beacons, Glamorgan Heritage Coast, Bute Park and the Castle in Cardiff. Cardiff Bay is also not far from the university.

If English is not your first language it is better to practice English reading and writing before arriving in the UK. It will be easier for your assessment writing, understanding lectures, communicating with natives in English and so many other benefits during your settlements.

Overall, I’ve loved my time here so far, and would recommend to all looking to study in the UK.
