Everything you need to know
As a self-funding international student from Syria, you are eligible for a scholarship of:
- £1,500 per year for undergraduate students
- £2,000 per year for postgraduate students
This applies for courses starting in September 2024 and February 2025. You will be automatically considered for one of these awards when we receive your application.

Foundation Years are available to students who don't meet the academic requirements for entry directly onto year 1 of a Bachelor degree.
English Qualifications
Proficiency in English is essential for undergraduate and postgraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:
- GCSE/O Level English Language grade C or above
- IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each band)
Please note that some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the University’s standard requirements. Please see the course page for further information.
Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language courses.
Academic Qualifications
- Students who have completed a 2 year Diploma from a recognised institution in a relevant subject can be considered for advanced entry onto an undergraduate degree programme.
- Applicants who have followed the IB Diploma curriculum can be considered for undergraduate entry – the normal UCAS tariff will be applied
- Applicants who have followed the A-Level curriculum can be considered for undergraduate entry – the normal UCAS tariff will be applied

- 4 year degree holders with a second class degree and above (60% - good / Jayyid or above) can be considered for entry onto a relevant postgraduate programme of study.
- Applicants with other relevant qualifications or work experience may be considered on a case by case basis.
