Newport Marathon and 10k

The University of South Wales (USW) has been named as an official sponsor for the ABP Newport Wales Marathon and 10K 2021.

The races, which will take place on Sunday 24 October 2021, will start and finish in front of USW’s striking Newport Campus. This will be the third time the university city has hosted the event, with the 2020 race having been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over 4,200 runners will follow the 26.2-mile route, considered to be one of the flattest marathon courses in the UK. The route passes by some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Newport Transporter Bridge, and continues onto the Gwent Levels before finishing back at the USW Newport Campus. On the riverfront, the campus hosts a community of learning dedicated to people, technology and business, from counselling to cyber security, and from education to artificial intelligence.

Registration for the marathon and 10k is still open, with sign-ups costing £49 and £23 respectively.

Matt Newman, Run4Wales Chief Executive, said: “We’re so excited that the ABP Newport Wales Marathon & 10K is returning on Sunday 24 October, with a number of additional COVID safety measures in place to help keep everybody safe.”

“The stunning Newport Campus is the first and final landmark on the course, so it is fantastic to have USW officially involved as a partner to the event again in 2021.”

“We wish the best of luck to all the USW staff and students taking part in the marathon & 10K races.”

Dr Ben Calvert, Vice-Chancellor of USW, said “As the region’s university, with a campus in the heart of the city centre, USW is proud to be an official partner this year’s ABP Newport Wales Marathon.

"This is a fantastic event which brings people from all over the world to the city, and we are thrilled to be a part of it.”
