Top consultant Professor Keshav Singhal MBE receives honorary doctorate from USW

Professor Keshav Singhal MBE, Senior Orthopaedic Consultant at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of South Wales (USW) this week.

Professor Singhal, who specialises in hip and knee replacement surgery, received the award at a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, which was held at the International Convention Centre Wales (ICC Wales) in Newport.

Professor Singhal is the Chair of the Covid-19 Risk Assessment group, which led on the development of the All-Wales Covid-19 Risk Assessment tool to help reduce the risk of contracting Covid-19 in the workplace.

In 2020, he was elected to the Learned Society of Wales’s Fellowship. He also sits on the Lord Chancellor’s South Wales Advisory committee, and in 2021 was made the first Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland with jurisdiction for Wales.

Keshav is on the steering board of the Anti-Racist Wales action plan of the Welsh Government, contributing to the Government’s Equality strategy. He Chairs the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) in Wales.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony on Wednesday 20 July, Doctor Singhal said: "I am honoured and delighted to be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science by the University of South Wales.

“This award reflects the work we have done together, not just in the training and teaching, but also in the field of Equality and Diversity, where USW has been a leader."
