Refugee Week 2022 | a celebration of poetry, animation and projects at USW
14 June, 2022
Monday 20 June, 3.30pm – 7pm, at the Meeting House, Treforest Campus
To celebrate the idea of healing – the theme of Refugee Week 2022 – USW will welcome Eric Ngalle Charles, a Cameroonian writer, poet, playwright and human rights activist based in Wales, to talk about his new collection of poetry, Homelands.
Eric has previously been the recipient of the Creative Wales Award for his work on the topics of migration, trauma, and memory. In his autobiography, I, Eric Ngalle: One Man’s Journey Crossing Continents from Africa to Europe, he recounts his journey to Europe.
Monday’s event will include a screening of an animated film created by Ida Mizaree, an MA Animation student who has received a USW Sanctuary Scholarship.
Dr Palash Kamruzzaman, Senior Lecturer in Social Policy, will also join the event with a talk entitled: Researching Refugees and Displaced - some personal reflections.
Finally, there will be an opportunity to watch a film about the Speak to Me project, where English speakers and refugees come together to use language in a creative and expressive way.
Refreshments will be provided at this event, which is open to all. To register your free space, visit: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wythnos-ffoaduriaid-yn-pdc-refugee-week-at-usw-tickets-359370525917
