USW sponsors 2023 Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon
22 February, 2023
The University of South Wales (USW) will be an official sponsor for the Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon this year.
The race, which will take place on Sunday 5 March, will be hosted by St David’s Hospice Care, who will be fundraising to help support hospice patients throughout South East Wales and Lower Powys. 2023 marks the 10th year that the race has taken place.
The route will start from outside USW’s Newport Campus in the heart of the city centre, continuing south, over the SDR Bridge, and turning left up Corporation Road. The route will then continue to Caerleon before circling back to the city centre.
USW’s Newport Campus is situated alongside the River Usk, and hosts a community of learning dedicated to people, technology, and business, from counselling to cyber security, and from education to artificial intelligence.
Christine Vorres, Event Manager at St David’s Hospice Care, said: “St David’s Hospice Care are really looking forward to the 2023 Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon on 5 March, especially as it is our 10th anniversary of hosting it.
“Over the years the event has grown to become a firm favourite in the running community. The feedback that we receive is always in great praise of the local community who come out to support and help out on the day. The fact that all the proceeds are used to support hospice services probably has a positive impact on the way people feel about the race. We are very grateful to the University for allowing us to make their campus our home for the day.”
Professor Donna Whitehead, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of USW, said: “At USW we are proud to be an official partner for the Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon as it marks its tenth year.
"We are looking forward to welcoming runners as they begin the race outside our Newport Campus in the heart of the city centre. As the region’s University, we are thrilled to be playing a part in such a great event.”
