Swiss Ambassador to the UK visits USW

The University of South Wales (USW) welcomed HE Ambassador Markus Leitner, Ambassador of Switzerland to the United Kingdom, to its Glyntaf Campus on Wednesday 28 June.

Accompanying the Ambassador were Jeremie Bron, Counsellor at the Swiss Embassy (Deputy Head of Economy and Finance) and Marlies Hoecherl, Honorary Consul of Switzerland in Wales.

This was the Ambassador’s second official visit to Wales, a follow up to a visit last year when synergies in the field of life sciences sector were explored. During this visit, the Ambassador met with key companies and organisations in Life Sciences, including USW.

The Ambassador met members of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Education who delivered a presentation on Life Sciences at USW, as well as a tour of the clinical simulation suite and Hydra simulation centre.

The Ambassador had a discussion with members of the Faculty about potential areas for collaboration in relation to the field of Life Sciences.

Dr James Gravelle, Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Education said: “It was a pleasure to welcome HE Ambassador Markus Leitner, to the University see how students studying healthcare courses with us benefit from the facilities in our clinical simulation suite.

Strengthening educational and cultural ties brings countries closer together. Discussions were productive and I look forward to continued cooperation and potential collaboration.”
