University of South Wales (USW) graduate Victor Ojabo narrowly missed out on being named Technology Entrepreneur of the Year at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

Based in USW’s Startup Stiwdio in the University’s Newport Campus, Victor’s business, NDT South Wales Ltd, has gone from strength to strength since he started it after completing his MSc Aviation Engineering and Management in 2017, and then going on to do his MBA, both at USW.

Focusing on ‘Non-Destructive Testing’ of vital Infrastructure for a number of vital industries, Victor’s business works with companies in a number of sectors, including aerospace, railway, steel, civil engineering, water treatment, and precision manufacturing.

After the awards, Victor explained the benefits of being on the shortlist for the award.

“Being nominated as a finalist for an award like the Great British Entrepreneur Awards means a lot to me and the business,” he said.

“It is great to be recognised for contributions and accomplishments in the field of technology entrepreneurship, and the validation it brings to business. Personally, I get great satisfaction and motivation for being recognised for my hard work and dedication, and really appreciate the networking opportunities the award nomination leads to.

“Regardless of the outcome, being nominated as a finalist is an accomplishment to be proud of and provides valuable benefits for my entrepreneurial journey.”

After the nomination, Victor also spoke of the benefits of working out of USW’s Startup Stiwdio.

“Stiwdio has given me access to important resources, such as office space, equipment, and technology infrastructure, which has significantly reduced overhead costs for my startup business,” he said.

“The development opportunities are also very helpful, such as access to networking and experienced mentors and advisers, and educational programmes, while access to funders and financial support, has been exceptional.

“Additionally, being associated with a reputable institution such as the University of South Wales has enhanced my business's credibility and reputation in the eyes of potential partners, customers, and investors.”
