Winners of the 2026 Teachers’ and Advisers’ Awards announced

Congratulations to the winners and nominees of the 2026 University of South Wales (USW) Teachers and Advisers Awards.

Held at our Treforest Campus, the awards showcase the brilliant work teachers and advisers from secondary schools and colleges across the UK do to support their students, many going above and beyond in their roles to make a difference.

Each award winner received £500 towards CPD and/or staff wellbeing initiatives at their school or college.

Reflecting on the event, Christopher Edwards, Student Recruitment and Outreach Manager said: ‘It is a real privilege to organise the Teachers and Advisers Awards and celebrate the dedication, passion and impact that teachers and advisers have on their students and colleagues, work that often goes unrecognised. The awards also help strengthen our partnerships with schools and colleges, enabling us to continue supporting students on their journey into higher education while promoting the opportunities available at USW.’

The Award for Supporting Progression to Higher Education was presented to Melissa Wilson, Careers Coach at Cardiff and Vale College.

The Award for Outstanding Pastoral and Wellbeing Support was won by Kane Amos, Formation Lead at St David's Catholic College.

The Inspirational Teacher or Adviser of the Year award was presented to Tina Bryant, Head of Religious Studies and Sixth Form Tutor at Caldicot School.

The Award for Champion for Widening Participation was won by Sharon Westhead, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator at Archbishop Blanch Church of England Sixth Form.

A Highly Commended Award was also presented to Darren Church, Film and Media Studies Teacher at Exeter College, in recognition of his dedication and commitment to supporting students.
