Completing a PhD was challenging but incredibly rewarding. The support from USW, my supervisors, and fellow researchers made all the difference.
Research focus
Nyree’s PhD at the University of South Wales focused on improving care for lymphoedema, a chronic condition causing incurable swelling.
Her work tested a portable intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) device that reduced swelling and enhanced patients’ quality of life. The device also empowered patients with a simpler, home-based solution compared to traditional therapies.
Postgraduate ResearchResearch findings
Nyree’s findings emphasised the need for greater awareness of lymphoedema among healthcare professionals, advocating for better recognition and management of this life-altering condition.
Funded by the KESS programme, her PhD provided the chance to collaborate with Huntleigh Healthcare, the manufacturer of the IPC device. This invaluable industry experience helped Nyree secure a post-doctoral role with Huntleigh—a direct result of her PhD.
