Research focus
Arnaud Aimale-Troy’s academic journey has been driven by a passion for sustainable water solutions.
After completing a Masters in Wastewater Engineering through a double degree programme between his French engineering school and Cranfield University, Arnaud sought a PhD opportunity that aligned with his expertise and ambitions. He found the perfect match at the University of South Wales.
“I was really interested in the project USW was proposing - it matched my skills and interests perfectly,” Arnaud said.
The PhD, part of a Marie Curie-funded doctoral training programme, focused on integrating renewable electrolysis into wastewater treatment operations. It was a continuation of his work and a step forward in sustainable engineering.
USW Experience
Arnaud’s research was conducted in collaboration with Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, with his PhD partly sponsored by the utility provider. His work contributed directly to the OXYHYWATER project, a real-world application of his research.
“It was more than just academic work - I was involved in engineering at a pilot scale, which is something you don’t always get to do during a PhD,” he says.
Reflecting on his time at USW, Arnaud praised the supportive research environment and the opportunity to work alongside experienced academics.
“The team here has been really helpful. I’ve learned a lot of new skills,” he said, while also praising the research experience at USW. “If you’re ready to be fully involved, it’s a really rewarding experience.”
