The University of South Wales has long had a reputation for delivering high quality training in therapeutic delivery and continues to deliver a wider range of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level as well as short courses.

It has also prided itself on serving the communities in Newport and across South East Wales and has established links and partnerships with many statutory and third sector organisations.

USW Therapy is a newly formed centre of excellence for South Wales in the training and delivery of therapeutic services. The Helen Kegie Centre for Therapies is the hub of this activity and is located at Newport City Campus on the riverfront. However, much of our work can also be provided peripatetically. Many services can be delivered to organisations in-house or at other of our campuses, such as Treforest, Glyntaff and Cardiff.

USW Therapy Service offers a range of counselling options depending on your needs. Typically, we provide a block of counselling sessions, consisting of 8 sessions per block.  Our price is £42 per session, Inc. of VAT.

We routinely carry out an initial assessment prior to accessing counselling. This helps us to understand your needs and ensure we can provide you with the right service at the right time. Assessments take approximately 45 minutes at no cost and can be take place via telephone.

Alternatively, we can offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. 10 – 12 sessions per block are provided. The price is £42 per session. (Inc. of VAT).

Individual Therapy Sessions

Individual therapy lasts for an hour and appointments take place at the same time each week. Payments will be taken prior to each appointment. If you are unable to attend a therapy session, please let us know before 24 hours before your appointment.

Your information is important to us. To access our Privacy Notice, please read the Privacy Notice (Adults) to find out what we do with your information.

USW Therapy counselling service is committed to providing a reliable, confidential and friendly counselling service but we may not get it right every time. In order for the service to develop and to continue to meet its high standards, the following procedures have been devised to deal with complaints.

  1. Contact the Counsellor - In the first instance any issues or concerns raised should be discussed with the Counsellor whereby, hopefully, a possible solution will be found informally. If the issue is unable to be resolved informally, use the next route in order of number:

  2. Contact USW Therapy Service Manager - The service manager will deal with any complaints relating to the conduct of Counsellors and Therapists working on behalf of the service.
