Welcome to USW! Before the big move there are a few things you need to know about arriving on campus, so it goes as smoothly as possible...
Information on when to arrive on campus and where to pick up your keys can be found below. Your halls contract starts on Saturday 15th September 2018 (unless you’ve made arrangements for an earlier start date).
Your arrival date and times are provided below, It's really important you keep to your allocated arrival time as moving in week is very busy on campus. Please refer to your contract if you are in any doubt about which building you have been assigned to.
If you can't make your allocated time, please contact Nick Hennessey as soon as possible so that we can find an alternative for you.
Once you've arrived you'll be given a 30 minute slot to unpack your car (one car per family). Our brilliant Student Ambassadors will help you unpack your car, move in and answer any questions you might have.
Then you will need to move your car to our student car park (free of charge), to enable the next set of arrivals to park outside accommodation.

The type of room you have been allocated is stated on your contract, along with your room number.
Glamorgan Court room numbers are preceded by the letters GC then the house letter. For example: GCA-11, would translate as Glamorgan Court, House 'A’, Flat 1, Room 1.
Mountain Halls are slightly different. Each hall has its own name and its own code as follows:
So for example, PFB-111 would be Pen Y Fan, Flat 11, Room 1.
Studio flats are located in Caerphilly Hall and the flat numbers will be preceded by the characters 'CPF’. If you have been allocated a studio flat, the contract is issued in the name of the lead tenant. This means that the lead tenant will take sole responsibility for payment of the rent and terms and conditions of the contract of occupancy on the allocated accommodation.
If you're sharing your flat with another person, we'll need their details too. Please get in touch with more information.
As a condition of your tenancy agreement you are required to attend the Halls induction meeting. This meeting allows us to welcome you to Halls and give you key information about living in University accommodation, including the regulations and conditions of occupancy.
You'll also get to meet other students in your block. Details of your induction meetings can be found on our Halls Inductions pages.
The University has arranged possessions insurance cover on your behalf through Endsleigh, the leading student insurance provider.

It is important to find out exactly what you are covered for as you may find that you require additional cover to protect all your possessions both inside and outside of your room. For example, Endsleigh’s student gadget insurance.
The University strongly recommends that, where possible, you consider alternative travel arrangements to driving. We encourage all students to use public transport if possible.
There are a very limited number of spaces available in the residents car parking. The current cost is £180.00 for the year.
A link to the residents parking application form will be included in your accommodation confirmation email after you have accepted your contract.

If you have not already applied and wish to do so please visit the accommodation application portal and complete the Residents Parking application. You will need your RMS ID and Password in order to log in, these were emailed to you in order to apply for halls and are also sent out with your halls of residence offer.
If you have a disability or special circumstances please inform us in writing (independent evidence may be required).
Parking allocations will be made during the week commencing 4th September 2017 and successful applicants will be notified by email by Friday 8th September 2017. (Unsuccessful applicants will not be sent an email).
Successful applicants will be sent a payment link in order to purchase the residents parking permit, the current cost is £180.00 for the year.
If you have a disability that means you may require assistance or additional measures in order to evacuate a building in an emergency, please complete a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan form which will help us to formulate a suitable plan. Once developed, the Plan will be the intended means of escape in the event of an emergency (including fire drills).

The regulations and conditions of occupancy form part of your accommodation contract. A copy of the Regulations Booklet will be made available to download with your halls offer but you can also download it from the Life in Student Halls Channel.
Please check your vaccinations are up to date before coming to University. It takes two weeks for vaccinations to take effect. In particular please check whether you have been vaccinated against Meningitis ACWY and MMR. Here is more information on vaccinations.
