Why I Chose Accounting at USW
I wanted to become an accountant but knew how tough it can be to break directly into practice. A degree felt like the best route to open professional doors, and USW offered the right mix of accessibility and quality. Staying local made it financially manageable, and the course content aligned with exactly what I wanted to learn.

The course provides major professional exemptions - nine from ACCA, eight from ICAEW, and more from CIMA and CIPFA, giving us flexibility to specialise in whatever branch of accounting we pursue.

Tax has been the most enjoyable part of the course for me, but the biggest growth has come from teamwork. In our first year, we had to plan and run a charity event with people we’d never met, which pushed me out of my comfort zone and strengthened my social skills. Facilities like SAGE software training have been essential, and the employability team really helps with CV writing and preparing for professional life.
I’m already working in a small accounting practice and plan to move into a larger firm after graduation to specialise in tax or financial reporting. My advice: make sure your degree and exemptions line up with your long-term goals. They’ll save you valuable time later.
