Following My Ambition Abroad
My journey began in Nigeria, where I worked as a supervisor managing hens on a large poultry farm. Watching my manager coordinate everything, from operations to people, inspired me to want that same level of leadership. When I asked how he did it, he told me it takes knowledge and study. That advice stuck with me, and I decided to pursue my education to become a manager capable of leading a large agricultural enterprise. After completing my HND, I searched for universities abroad, and the University of South Wales stood out as the right fit.
I didn’t know much about the area or what to expect, but something told me it was the right path. When I finally arrived, I found the learning environment supportive and inspiring. Every module, from Business Strategy to Applied Management, has been valuable in building the well-rounded knowledge I need for the future. The lecturers are approachable, and their teaching has made complex topics engaging and relevant.

The facilities at USW have been a huge help. The library is one of my favourite places. It’s organised into quiet and collaborative areas, and you can even borrow laptops for free. The Wi-Fi access and the approachable staff make studying easier and more connected. Beyond the classroom, I’ve started exploring my passion for cooking. I currently work part-time in an African restaurant in Cardiff, and it’s inspired me to open my own one day in Treforest, a place where local students at USW can enjoy authentic African food. I believe the mindset instilled into me at USW has helped me spot this gap in the market.
I am still keeping my options open. With potentially a long-term goal of opening a restaurant, I’m considering pursuing a master’s degree next, possibly in Business Management to keep expanding my knowledge. My advice for anyone thinking about studying abroad is simple: take the risk and go for it. It’s your future, and it’s worth investing in.
