Embracing hands-on learning

At USW, Andre immersed himself in a hands-on learning environment. From applying legal theory in the Hydra simulation suite to conducting realistic investigations in the on-campus crime scene house, he was able to develop critical policing skills before ever setting foot in the force.

USW’s degree programme not only prepared him academically but also built strong peer networks. Many of his university classmates are now training alongside him at South Wales Police, providing a familiar support system in a high-pressure environment.

Andre entered the force feeling confident and well-prepared. His familiarity with legislation, arrest procedures, and real-world policing scenarios gave him a head start. “All the theory and practical elements we learned at university are now being refreshed in training,” he shares. “It’s a massive help.”
