Choosing the right course and finding my confidence
Choosing Graphic Communication has felt like a natural path for me. I’ve been passionate about art and design all my life, and after studying it in college, I knew I wanted to dive deeper into the field. USW stood out because of its course content and structure, which felt more aligned with my career goals than other options. The typography module, in particular, really caught my eye, and when I met the lecturers at the Open Day, their confidence and depth of knowledge completely sold me on USW.
From the start, USW has offered fantastic hands-on opportunities, including live briefs from clients like Gwent Police and a self-directed branding project. The course’s structure balances freedom with guidance, allowing us to explore our creativity while staying on track. The facilities are top-notch, with access to Adobe Creative Suite, plenty of Macs, and a library full of design resources, which have all been invaluable.

Living in Cardiff adds so much to the experience. The city is packed with creative events, and the student community is always buzzing with ideas and opportunities to collaborate on projects. After graduation, I hope to start at an agency and eventually go freelance, and this course has been setting me up perfectly for that path.
For anyone considering Graphic Communication, my advice is to immerse yourself fully—attend every lecture, take each day as a learning opportunity, and make the most of the creative freedom USW offers. You’ll get out what you put in!
