Dr James Gravelle is the University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor. He was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor in February 2025 and is committed to advancing academic transformation and institutional excellence.
Prior to this role, James served as Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic Transformation, where he led the development of innovative academic provision and delivery while identifying opportunities for sustainable growth across the University.
Since joining the University in 2008, James has held a number of academic and leadership roles, progressing from Research Assistant to Senior Lecturer, Head of Policing and Security, and Head of the School of Health, Sport and Professional Practice.
In 2022, he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Education (FLSE), where he revitalised health education provision, achieving sector-leading recruitment in Wales and securing new income streams.
James holds a PhD and maintains an active research profile in policing, security and community wellbeing. He is committed to widening participation and inclusive education.
