Tell us about your journey since graduating from USW.

I was looking for work in IT for many months after uni but I couldn’t get a solid offer due to the pandemic and lack of commercial experience. Then I received an email from USW about graduate internships for former graduates, so I applied for the IT related roles. I did not get in initially as I was heavily IT based, and the role was more suitable for lightweight IT users.

Being unsuccessful with those opportunities, I received another email from USW after a month or so about an internship for a software developer which was more suitable for me. I applied, I was successful, I worked hard to meet all my targets and within 3 months, I was offered a permanent position at the uni to be a full-time software Developer.

Celebrating Black History Month, what does it mean to you?

Celebrating this event means giving greater recognition, respect, and representation for black minorities in regard to their history and present life achievements.

How can graduates and the wider USW family celebrate and support Black History Month?

Graduates and the USW family can show support for Black History Month by providing credit to black minority success and accomplishments to where credit is due within the educational institutions. This could consist of achievements recorded in USW history (whether in the school of business, sports, or IT etc) as this would allow people to celebrate the contributions of black minorities within USW’s overall success.

Can you recommend any books or films that people can use to inspire and inform themselves?

Who inspires you?
