Module Overview

This course commences every April and runs through until the following March. There are two modules to complete with a total of 60 credits. On-campus study days are on a Friday 10am to 3pm.

Facilitating Learning, Teaching and Assessment in the Context of Practice

This module aims to develop knowledge, skills and competence to effectively facilitate and support learning and undertake the assessment of students and others within the context of the participants’ area of practice.

Enhancing the Learning Experience in the Context of Practice

This module aims to explore and develop the quality of the student experience and student learning in the context of practice and to critically examine their role in effectively enhancing the learning experience.

How you'll learn

Theoretical learning will be managed through facilitated learning processes that include
tutorial, workshops, role-play, participant-led learning activities and use of simulated learning environments.

Work-based–practice learning will focus on supporting learning and student assessment within the context of the participant's practice. Participants will have two summative observed facilitations of learning / assessment opportunities with students.

The participants will critically reflect and develop from the feedback on these sessions and develop a supporting portfolio of the sessions. A further element of assessment will focus on developing and leading an initiative within the participant's context of practice to enhance the students and others learning experience.

Teaching staff

There is a core team of very experienced senior lecturers who are also registered healthcare professionals that will support you through this course and facilitate your learning and development.


Participants will be allocated a Personal Tutor to offer support and guidance with all aspects of the course. Personal tutors will also offer academic supervision to help the participant prepare for summative assessments and undertake observations of the participant's facilitation of learning and assessment.

Placements

There is not an element of placements or work experience attached to this course but
participants must be in a role whereby they are able to facilitate learning and assessment of learning.

Facilities

This course is delivered on Glyntaff Campus whereby participants will be able to experience a range of teaching and learning facilities including the Clinical Simulation Suite, the Hydra Minerva Suite and other facilities.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Typical qualification requirements:

Applicants must hold a 2:2 or above in a degree and have evidence of recent engagement with CPD activities. They must also be in a role whereby they are able to facilitate learning and assessment of learning.

Alternative Leave Permissions

Applicants with leave to remain in the UK, may be considered for this course depending on the type and duration of your leave. Please email [email protected] to obtain confirmation of how to proceed.

Unfortunately, this course is not currently open to international applicants who require a Graduate Route visa due to visa restrictions.

Studying at university is one of the most significant investments you'll ever make. Whilst you’re studying, you’ll have two main financial obligations – tuition fees and living costs. There’s lots of financial help available from the University of South Wales and external funding sources, that may provide loans (which have to be paid back) and grants, scholarships and bursaries (that don't).

*Full-time fees are per year. Part-time fees are per 20 credits. Once enrolled, the fee is anticipated to remain at the same rate throughout the duration of your study on this course except as described below.

Please be aware that we may increase the maximum fee for home students on full-time undergraduate courses only where the Welsh Government increases the permitted level of inflation of fees. Fees for all students (including part-time, postgraduate and international students) may be amended in accordance with our applicable Fees and Debt Management Policy.  We will ensure that students are given clear, intelligible, unambiguous and timely information about our courses and costs in good time, ahead of the next academic year.

Additional Costs

As a student of USW, you’ll have access to lots of free resources to support your study and learning, such as textbooks, publications, online journals, laptops, and plenty of remote-access resources. Whilst in most cases these resources are more than sufficient in supporting you with completing your course, additional costs, both obligatory and optional, may be tequired or requested for the likes of travel, memberships, experience days, stationery, printing, or equipment.
