Film & TV School Wales is a major breakthrough in Creative Industries education, developed by the University of South Wales. With our vast experience, industry links and fantastic location in the heart of Cardiff, we’ll provide students with the best opportunities to build a successful career in 21st century film and television.

About Us

In consultation with the Welsh Government and key industry partners, we’re bringing together all our successful film and television-related courses, and boosting provision with a range of new postgraduate courses from September 2019. Whether you’re interested in directing, editing, production management, set design, animation or visual effects, our broad and relevant curriculum will provide you with all the skills and opportunities you need to join one of the most dynamic industries in the UK.

Our inspiring team of academic staff combine top quality teaching with working in the industry, ensuring they can pass on up-to-the-minute skills, and share their extensive contacts and knowledge with our students.  Guest lectures, masterclasses, industry visits and work placements all add to opportunities to meet top industry talent face-to-face.

Our History

Film & TV School Wales builds on over 50 years of film education at the University of South Wales, formerly at the Newport Film School.  Our Graduates include the Oscar-winning Asif Kapadia (Senna, Amy), Phil John (Downton Abbey, Being Human), and hundreds of others working at the highest levels in film and TV around the world.

Schools and Colleges Awards

We want to celebrate the phenomenal TV and filmmaking talent of young people at schools and colleges.  We’ve created a new series of awards, in partnership with IntoFilm and Screen Alliance Wales to celebrate the amazing work of young creatives.  See our awards categories and details on how to enter.

Courses

Film & TV School Wales offers a range of popular and respected Undergraduate courses, plus we’re developing new, industry-focused Postgraduate provision.

Facilities

Based at USW Cardiff, our impressive central location is complimented by the best film and media production resources in Wales, including:

  • TV and film studios
  • Performance and rehearsal spaces
  • Grading and editing suites
  • Dubbing theatres
  • New motion capture and green screen studios
  • Two screening cinemas 

With all these resources under one roof, we’ve created huge opportunities to develop your skills and collaborate with students across a wide range of creative disciplines.

Cardiff is a thriving, modern and cosmopolitan capital, fast becoming a major hub for the creative industries. 

Studying here offers the perfect opportunity for work experience, project collaboration and live briefs with industry – whether its BBC Drama studios in Cardiff Bay, ITV, S4C, Pinewoood, GloWorks, Bad Wolf or hundreds of smaller specialist creative businesses, many set up by our graduates.

We also have strong links with a number of key educational partners including: Bridgend College, Cardiff and Vale College, Coleg Gwent, Coleg y Cymoedd and The College Merthyr Tydfil. Together, we offer foundation degrees and HNDs enabling students to further their Creative Industries education. 

Film & TV School Wales is also one of the few UK Full Members of CILECT, the prestigious International Association of Film and Television Schools representing the best film schools from around the world.
