Welcome to the University of South Wales! As one of the largest universities in the UK we are proud of our internationally diverse student body. We have been welcoming students from Hong Kong to the University for many years and have developed excellent support services for you, including:

The University offers the following scholarships for self-funding international students. You will be automatically considered for one of these awards when we receive your application. For more information visit the international scholarships page.

  • International Academic Scholarship of £1,500 per year for undergraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £2,000 for postgraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £1,500 for MBA students

Foundation Entry Requirements


Undergraduate Entry Requirements

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Undergraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:

  • HKDSE Level 4 in English Language
  • GCSE/O Level English Language grade C or above
  • IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each band)

Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language courses.


Academic Qualifications

  • Holders of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education will be considered against the standard UCAS tariff for each individual course for direct admission to first degree programmes.
  • Holders of the International Baccalaureate Diploma or ‘A’ levels obtained in Hong Kong will be considered for direct admission to first degree programmes. Students who do not meet these entry requirement will be considered for a Foundation year.
  • Holders of three-year college Diplomas/Higher National Diplomas/Associate Degrees in a related subject will be considered for entry onto our one year Top Up courses. Please note a good IELTS score is required (6.0 minimum) or HKDSE 4 or HKCEE Grade C or above.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Postgraduate study. The University of South Wales also recognises the following English language qualifications:

  • HKDSE Level 4 in English Language
  • GCSE/O Level English at grade C or above
  • Postgraduate Study: IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 with at least a 5.5 in each component. Please note that some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the University’s standard requirements. Please see the course page for further information.

Academic Qualifications

  • Students who have completed a Bachelors degree with a good/Lower Second Class Honours degree (or equivalent) can be considered for entry onto a relevant postgraduate programme.
  • Applicants with other relevant qualifications or work experience may be considered on a case by case basis.
