Everything you need to know
As a self-funding international student from Japan, you are eligible for a scholarship of:
- £1,500 per year for undergraduate students
- £2,000 per year for postgraduate students
This applies for courses starting in September 2024 and February 2025. You will be automatically considered for one of these awards when we receive your application.

Foundation Years are available to students who don't meet the academic requirements for entry directly onto year 1 of a Bachelor degree.
English Qualifications
Proficiency in English is essential for undergraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:
- GCSE/O Level English Language grade C or above
- IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each band)
Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language courses.
Academic Qualifications
- Holders of the Senmonshi (Technical/Vocational Associate degree) or students on the first year of a 4 year Japanese degree will be considered for direct entry onto the first year of our undergraduate programmes.
- Applicants who have followed the A-Level curriculum can be considered for undergraduate entry – the normal UCAS tariff will be applied
- Applicants who have followed the IB Diploma curriculum can be considered for undergraduate entry – the normal UCAS tariff will be applied
- Applicants with other relevant qualifications may be considered on a case by case basis.

- Holders of a Gakushi (First Degree), ShÅ«shi (Master’s degree), or an Advanced Diploma (from institutions or courses authorised by the National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation) will be considered for direct entry onto our postgraduate programmes.
- Applicants with other relevant qualifications or work experience may be considered on a case by case basis.
