Welcome to the University of South Wales! As one of the largest universities in the UK we are proud of our internationally diverse student body. We have been welcoming students from Japan to the University for some years and have developed excellent support services for you.

The University offers the following scholarships for self-funding international students. You will be automatically considered for one of these awards when we receive your application. For more information visit the international scholarships page.

  • International Academic Scholarship of £1,500 per year for undergraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £2,000 for postgraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £1,500 for MBA students

Foundation Entry Requirements

Undergraduate Entry Requirements

  • Holders of the Senmonshi (Technical/Vocational Associate degree) or students on the first year of a 4 year Japanese degree will be considered for direct entry onto the first year of our undergraduate programmes. 
  • Applicants who have followed the A-Level curriculum can be considered for undergraduate entry – the normal UCAS tariff will be applied
  • Applicants who have followed the IB Diploma curriculum can be considered for undergraduate entry – the normal UCAS tariff will be applied
  • Applicants with other relevant qualifications may be considered on a case by case basis.

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Undergraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:

  • GCSE/O Level English Language grade C or above
  • IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each band)

Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language courses.


Postgraduate Entry Requirements

  • Holders of a Gakushi (First Degree), Shūshi (Master’s degree), or an Advanced Diploma (from institutions or courses authorised by the National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation) will be considered for direct entry onto our postgraduate programmes.
  • Applicants with other relevant qualifications or work experience may be considered on a case by case basis.


English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Postgraduate study. The University of South Wales also recognises the following English language qualifications:

  • GCSE/O Level English at grade C or above
  • Postgraduate Study: IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 with at least a 5.5 in each component. Please note that some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the University’s standard requirements. Please see the course page for further information.
