"I have had a great experience at USW so far.’’
Hi, I’m Hiroyuki, from Japan. I am a Chiropractic student at the University of South Wales. The reason why I am strongly interested in chiropractic can be helping people as a neuromusculoskeletal specialist who would be able to contribute to some diseases such as the neck, low back pain, headache, and sports injuries. Unfortunately, chiropractic does not spread sufficiently as an official medical effective treatment in Japan.
I believe that it is important for health service in the world as well as in my country. Thus, I am eager to acquire an international certification of a Doctor of Chiropractic because in the UK is maintained by the high quality of healthcare and qualification systems. In addition, the occupation as a healthcare professional is rapidly expanding mainly in the English-speaking area and the chiropractor is authorized under the UK's law and globally.
The English language was a big obstacle for an non-English speaker as myself. I took the Pre-sessional English course before taking the main academic course, and fortunately passed the English course although it was hard work.
At the beginning of my time in the UK, I felt a bit lost and lonely. But my classmates and roommates are kind enough to help me improve my academic English and lecturers at the University are super supportive as well. It is very important to get out of your comfort zone and seek for help from both your peers and the University.
To summarize, Chiropractic is a great subject to study at the University of South Wales but it does require hard work. I have had a great experience at USW so far, so hope more Japanese students join me here in the future.
