"I would 100% recommend USW to international students.’’

Hi, I'm Essien Attah, from Nigeria. I chose to study at the USW because of the course modules, low tuition fee compared to other universities, low cost of living in Wales and highly secured & friendly environment. Living in South Wales has been fantastic and I would 100% recommend USW to international students. There is a respect for rule of law, human rights, equality and diversity here in the UK and an excellent economy. The people here are so nice, and friendly, and are always ready to listen and assist visitors when necessary.

It's such a beautiful environment to live in – there are beautiful beaches such as Barry Island, nice pubs, lovely restaurants and also green spaces. Since graduating from USW, I have opened my own Nigerian restaurant in Cardiff, called De Splendours.

My favourite things about running a business

Two people shaking hands

I get to put my skills from my degree into practice

Two students sat in stilts smiling over food

I get to employ current USW students

A group of students happily chatting over a drink in sunny window of a restaurant in Pontypridd.

I love meeting new people from all over the UK and beyond

A group of students smiling at the camera during International Welcome Programme

People thank me for bringing local African cuisine to Cardiff

USW HAS HELPED TO PUT ME ON THE RIGHT TRACK TO ACHIEVE MY GOALS.

MBA

My course allowed me to get hands-on experience on what it’s like to run a business – and I’m now using these skills everyday. If I had to describe USW in one word, it would be 'unique'.

One of my most memorable experiences at USW was becoming African students leader which really exposed me to a lot of different African people with different characters, attitudes and demands. After becoming African students leader, I learnt a lot about managing people with different attitudes, situations, characters, cultural orientation and mindsets. I have learnt how to be patience, humble, listen and appropriate ways of responding to the student's problems and challenges.

Work Experience at USW

Employers want to recruit graduates who have existing knowledge of the working world. Our close links with relevant employers like British Airways, Sony, and Tata allow us to design courses that give you the skills they’re looking for.
