Study with a scholarship of up to £2,500 in a safe and welcoming living environment, surrounded by a diverse community of international students.


We have three vibrant campuses around the capital city of Wales; Cardiff. Here, you can enjoy a high standard of living at a low cost. You’ll be surrounded by the best of South Wales’ cities, coast and countryside, and we’re only 2 hours from London via train. Most of our 500 + courses are recognised or accredited by professional organisations and are all taught with employability in mind. That’s why 96% of USW graduates are in Employment and/or Further Study 15 months after graduation (Graduate Outcomes Survey 2021/22).


Everything you need to know

As a self-funding international student from Nigeria, you are eligible for a scholarship of:

  • £2,500 per year for undergraduate students
  • £2,500 per year for postgraduate students 

This applies for courses starting in September 2024 and February 2025. You will be automatically considered for one of these awards when we receive your application.

Foundation Years are available to students who don't meet the academic requirements for entry directly onto year 1 of a Bachelor degree.

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Undergraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English language qualifications: 

  • A C, C6, 6 or credit pass grade in English at SSCE/NECO/WACE level
  • IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum 5.5 in each band)

Don't worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language Courses to prepare you for academic studies.

Academic Qualifications

  • Students who have the Senior School Certificate with five or more B3 grades can be considered for direct undergraduate entry 
  • Students who have the Nigerian Certificate of Education Diploma can be considered for undergraduate degree programmes
  • Students with a National Diploma can be considered for undergraduate degree programmes
  • Successful completion of a recognised foundation programme such as Bridge House Foundation/Northern Consortium Foundation/Global Education Foundation/Multi-plan Foundation can be accepted for entry to the appropriate 1st year degree programme
  • Students with ‘A’ levels will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate degree programmes. Please refer to our course pages for detailed entry requirements
  • Students who do not meet the entry requirements will be considered for a Foundation year
  • Students with a Higher National Diploma or Polytechnic diplomas can be considered for advanced entry onto certain undergraduate degree programmes

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Postgraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English language qualifications: 

  • A C, C6, 6 or credit pass grade in English at SSCE/NECO/WAEC level
  • IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 with at least a 5.5 in each component. Please note that some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the University’s standard requirements. Please see the course page for further information.

Academic Qualifications

  • Students with an undergraduate degree with second class or better will be considered for direct entry onto a postgraduate programme
  • Applicants with a Masters degree may be considered for entry to Ph.D. studies if the student also has a suitable research proposal
