‘’Life at USW has been absolutely fantastic!’’

Hi, I'm Kudakwashe Magura, from Zimbabwe, and I’m studying MSc Engineering Management. I joined USW on the Chevening Scholarship. The Chevening application process is a one year long application that involves passing several stages of the interview process. The process is a very fair process which is based on how an applicant is able to present his/her leadership qualities at each stage of the interview process. The uniqueness of what leadership qualities you have determines the success of the application. My simple advice to would be Cheveners is that be yourself, write your potential leadership stories in your own way and be very articulate of what you want to achieve in your career plans.

My decision to choose USW was done after a thorough search and comparison with other UK universities. In my comparison of universities offering the same programme, USW was the best university from the lot in terms of having better rankings on the qualities I was looking for. USW was in the top ten of all UK universities in the rankings for best student support, best courses & lecturers and best university facilities.

I HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH WALES.

MSc Engineering Management

My favourite things about life in Wales

three students with moving boxes and a plant ready to move into student accommodation

Wales is one of the cheapest places to stay in the UK – ideal for students

Group Meeting

Welsh people are so nice, friendly and welcoming

Rhossili Bay and beach on the Gower peninsula on the coast of South Wales.

There is so much sightseeing to do – from castles, to beaches to mountain climbing

FitZone gym in Pontypridd - equipped gym interior with various exercise machines under bright lighting.

The campus has fantastic facilities, I particularly enjoy using the USW Sports Centre and gym

Three female students dressed in traditional indian dress eating street foot

It’s so multicultural here – there’s a mixture of international students from all over the world

My MSc Engineering Management course has been well structured with a well balanced mix of lectures, assistive tutorials and industrial visits. The lecturers are very knowledgeable with some of them being professors and leading practitioners in their respective fields. The learning facilities from the lecture rooms to the library is fitted with state of the art equipment so as to make the environment conducive to the learner.

I live in a private shared accommodation with four other international students. The house is 3 minutes walking distance from the Treforest Campus and that’s very convenient to me. The place is so nice with all facilities that allows me to prepare even my own traditional meals, its home away from home!

My plans after graduation is to go back to my country and I’m confident that I will get a management position role that will help me translate my UK acquired education and experiences for the development of our Zimbabwean manufacturing companies. With the latest manufacturing and innovation technologies I have learnt here in the UK,I believe I will very useful in the transforming of our manufacturing industries to bridge the gap to match developed standards.
