We don’t want travel to get in the way. We offer support for reasonable travel costs to attend our events.
Discounted Travel for Events
Find out more about discounted travel options through National Express and Great Western Railway.
Discounted rail travel is available with Great Western Railway (GWR) for attendees travelling to our on-campus Open Days and Applicant Experience Days.
How to use the discount
You can apply the discount when booking your journey via the GWR website:
- Search for your journey as normal
- Select “Have a Promo Code?”
- Enter the code: USWOPENDAY26
The discount code is valid within 7 days of the event date.
Visitors attending our events can receive a 20% discount on travel with National Express using the promotion code UOSW30.

- Discount only valid for students travelling to Open day on 25 October 2025, 22 November 2025, 21 January 2026, 21 March 2026, 3 June 2026 and 13 June 2026. Also valid for travel to an Applicant Experience Day on 28 February 2026, 18 April 20256 and 9 May 2026 at University of South Wales.
- Redeemable from any location to Newport South Wales or Cardiff Coach Station, Sophia Gardens.
- Only valid for travel to an Open Day/Applicant Experience Day on the following dates,24-25 October 2025, 21-22 November 2025, 20-22 January 2026, 27 February -1 March 2026, 20-22 March 2026, 17-18 April 2026, 8-10 May 2026, 2-4 June 2026 and 12-14 June 2026
- Bookings must be made 3 days in advance.

Attending an open day gives you the chance to chat with lecturers, students, and other members of staff and see any facilities you may be using during your studies.
You’ll see and experience everything first-hand and really get a feel for if university is the right choice for you.
Signing up for one of our open days is easy. Pick the event you want to attend, fill in our short online form, and you’re registered.
You’ll get a confirmation email with your QR code for registration, travel info, and a link to manage your booking - so you can add guests or cancel if plans change.
Each of our campuses have excellent public transport links and are all easily accessible by car.

To make things even easier, we offer a Travel Bursary to support with travel costs. Take a look at our Travel Bursary pages to check if you’re eligible and apply.
Yes, you’re welcome to bring parents, guardians, friends, or children.
They don’t need to register separately, but after you receive your confirmation email, you can update your booking to let us know how many guests you’ll be bringing.

Our open days usually start with registration at 9:30am (some campuses may start at 9:45am or 10am - check your confirmation email for exact times) and finish around 3pm. Try to arrive on time for registration so you don’t miss anything.
Our Open Days are designed for undergraduate applicants.
