These are all modern, state-of-the-art teaching rooms. All of the Kegie Centre rooms can also be used for bespoke training and CPD events and can also be hired out for specific events.
The late Helen Kegie was a former Assistant Director of the Residential and Day care Social Services Department, Monmouthshire. Previously occupying posts including an Assistant Children’s Officer and a County Children’s Officer, Helen’s contribution to the field of social work was recognised with an MBE in 1997. Helen was a longstanding supporter of the University and was made an Honorary Fellow of the University of Wales, Newport.
Helen’s philanthropy in life was tangible through the longstanding bursary she established aimed at supporting individuals from low-income backgrounds to access education, specifically in the disciplines of Social Work, Youth Work and Early Years. The Helen Kegie Fund continues today and supports both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Helen’s commitment to the cause continues in her passing, as she made generous provision in her Will to ensure the endowment fund continues in perpetuity. In addition, her generosity has allowed the University to put forward monies as part of a larger funding bid, it would otherwise not be able to do so, to help deliver operations for The South Wales Counselling and Psychotherapy (SWCAP) Service.
The University of South Wales’ centre of excellence in therapeutic training and delivery is named The Helen Kegie Centre for Therapies in her honour.
