Play Sport

Our Students’ Union, lecturers and support staff work together to deliver a first-class student sport experience at the University.
The health and wellbeing of staff and students is at the heart of our efforts to change lives for the better. We aim to offer an environment that supports those who are inactive and wish to build physical activity into the everyday life alongside those aspiring to compete at the highest level of sport. Here, you can find out more about our sporting activities for our students.

Creating an sporting environment where every type of student can thrive.

Play Sport at USW
For many students sport is a big part of their lives, so it’s only natural to see students from across the University getting involved in playing sport.
At USW, we offer a thriving sports environment that breeds success. In recent years, we’ve seen a number of outstanding successes in the British Universities and Colleges League (BUCS) backed up by our elite training facilities and high-performance sport programmes.
We pride ourselves on our sporting successes and it's a major part of USW student life. We have over 60 teams playing in the BUCS leagues on Wednesday afternoons. Sports teams range from football, rugby, and basketball to water polo, swimming, volleyball and badminton. Visit our Students' Union website for more details on each team.
Student Voice Rep
Every year a student or recent graduate is elected to work on supporting activities and make sure student voice is heard.
Our Student Union Activities Officer champions the student voice of teams, clubs and societies and supports fundraising and volunteering opportunities.
You can contact them directly to find out more about our sport teams.
Getting involved
Any full or part time student can represent USW in a wide range of sports as an individual or as part of a team.
Each year we invite students to sign up for trials at our Fresher's Fayre which takes place during Freshers' Week.
If you’re interested in getting involved, more details are available on the Students' Union website.
