Choosing USW and discovering my strengths
One of the things I loved about USW from the start was its diversity. There are different people from different cultures, and not only do I get educated in my field, but I also get to learn about different cultures and what makes them who they are. USW’s academic excellence in accounting was another huge draw for me—I have always loved numbers, and accounting is fun for me. I am naturally an organised person, and I thought this role would suit my abilities best.
The serene surroundings of Treforest further cemented my choice; a peaceful environment is key to successful study. The BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance course at USW has equipped me with crucial skills like working on deadlines and meeting them, critical and analytical thinking, and practical experience with industry-standard software such as Sage.

During my course, I was lucky enough to get employed part-time at a private accounting firm even before graduating. I am looking forward to being full-time employed once I complete my degree. My long-term goal is to become a chartered accountant, and I plan to take the ACCA professional exams.
I’ve enjoyed a vibrant social life at USW, participating in activities such as the Afro-Caribbean Society, student mentoring, and gym sessions. These engagements have helped me maintain a healthy work-life balance, learn about diverse cultures, and unwind. My advice to future students considering accounting is simple: Go for it! If you are ambitious and like accounting, USW is the right path and the number of options you get are incredible.
