Study in the heart of Cardiff
From Drama or Design, to Fashion or Film, your creative future starts here at University of South Wales.
Cardiff is home to a vibrant creative community, with BBC, Pinewood Studios and a wealth of creative agencies on your doorstep. The huge potential for employment in the area is reflected in 95% of our graduates going in to work or further study within six months of graduating (DLHE 2016/17).
HIS DARK MATERIALS
More than 40 students and graduates from the University's Film and TV School worked on the BBC production of the epic TV drama, His Dark Materials.
His Dark Materials is a Bad Wolf production. Through their not-for-profit educational initiative Screen Alliance Wales (SAW), Bad Wolf continues to develop relationships with local schools, colleges and universities, building career pathways and supporting young Welsh talent.
USW students and graduates worked in a variety of roles, including production assistants, art department trainees, visual animations and much more.
SEX EDUCATION 2
Over 20 students and graduates have had the chance to work on the critically acclaimed Netflix series 'Sex Education' thanks to the USW TV and Film School close industry links to 'Eleven Film'.
The roles spanned the whole production - from costume and art to camera, sound and design - with many of the placements lasting several weeks.
We met up with a few of the team to discover how they found out about the opportunity to work on a globally-recognised show and hear about their experiences during the production.
Our creative students and graduates at USW are behind some of the most successful films of the past year, which are nominated for 2020 Academy Awards.
Working on blockbusters including 1917, Avengers: Endgame, The Lion King and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the USW alumni are adding some of Hollywood’s highest-grossing films of recent years to their CVs.
Our talented students and graduates have won Oscars and designed sets for BAFTA, as well as winning awards such as the Welsh Music Prize, the Pencil Award at the D&AD New Blood Awards. Some have even made the coveted Breakthrough Brits list.
Immersed! Festival is a unique music festival that is curated, planned and executed by USW Popular and Commercial Music students.
The students programme, promote and manage the event, as well as perform themselves alongside the best of upcoming Cardiff musical talent and established headline artists.
Headliners for USW's Immersed! Festival have included multi-platinum, award-winning artist and former Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft and co-frontman of The Libertines, Pete Doherty.
Our yearly Grad Fest showcases the amazing work our students have done that year.
Last years week long event saw a different subject featured each day, highlighting the talent and skills our students have developed during their studies.
This year aims to be a bigger and better celebration of all our students hard work than ever before!
We run a whole heap of Creative Industry events across all subjects.
