Following a Family Legacy
I’ve always been interested in legal studies, and when the COVID pandemic changed so many things, I decided that 2021 was the right time to get started. I needed a part-time course, and USW were incredibly accommodating. My decision to study here was also influenced by a strong family connection—my father, sister, and brother all attended USW, and I felt proud to follow in their footsteps. The University’s high ratings for student satisfaction played a critical role in my final decision.
I did attend an Open Day, specifically to meet the lecturers and ask questions about what they might expect of me. It helped cement my choice, and I’ve since had the opportunity to connect with many members of the legal society and work on several group subjects. Through this, I’ve made lifelong friends and professional contacts.
Find your courseShaping a Legal Future
The University’s legal facilities have truly elevated my experience. The moot court, in particular, has helped me feel more comfortable with the legal profession and prepared me for what to expect. Mooting and debating ideas has easily been my favourite part of the course, offering an engaging way to sharpen my presentation, writing, and critical thinking skills.
Looking ahead, I hope to become a solicitor, ideally working in the field of human rights. Before coming to USW, I hadn’t even considered human rights law—but my experience here has opened that door.
My advice to future students is simple: ask questions, meet your lecturers, and get to know them. Do your research and don’t be afraid to reach out before committing—USW will support you every step of the way.
