Industry connections through the course made these experiences happen

Sound, Lighting and Live Events students have had a busy 2025 Summer Festival Season. Through their connections made during their studies, students and graduates were able to gain industry experience during the summer, using the knowledge they learnt during their time studying.

Ellie Stothard
Ellie is a current student and through contacts gained during her first year at USW, she’s kept busy during the 2025 summer season. She took a role as Robospot operator at the prestigious Hampton Court Palace Festival which has welcomed acts such as Garry Barlow and Tom Jones. In July, she undertook a work experience opportunity at Stage Sound Services within their production warehouse. Over the August Bank Holiday weekend, she gained a technical operator role at Big Feastival a popular food and music festival in the Cotswolds.

Callum Lewis
Callum Graduated in 2022 and was already engaged in freelance work as a sound engineer at that point.  His summer started during the May Bank Holiday operating audio at Wales’s biggest festival: In it Together. Corporate events still happen during the summer season and Calum has been involved with high profile events at Cardiff Utilita Arena, Swansea Arena and The Principality Stadium.  His season also included roles at Glastonbury and The Big Feastival.

Alistair Brick
Alistair co-founded SR productions with fellow course mates during his time at USW.  The company provides equipment hire and technical production to the events and TV industry.  Summer 2025 was the companies’ busiest yet with truckloads of equipment sent to high profile events such as Tafwyl in Cardiff, 4 Stages at Glastonbury and a huge variety of large corporate events.
