Finding the right course to transition from amateur to elite football
Studying Football Coaching and Performance at the University of South Wales has been a transformative experience for me. Coming from India, where football opportunities are limited compared to cricket and hockey, I was looking for a course that could provide the technical knowledge to transition from amateur to elite football. USW offered exactly that, and since arriving in September 2023, my journey has been nothing short of incredible.
The support from the faculty played a crucial role in helping me adapt to a completely different education system. My lecturers ensured that I understood the curriculum and felt part of a community. Their guidance helped me gain confidence in my studies and settle into life in Wales, which has now become a second home to me.
Find your courseEmbracing placements and looking to the future
One of the best aspects of my course has been the immediate industry exposure. Within weeks of starting, I secured a voluntary placement with Pontypridd United, training at USW Sport Park. Over time, I progressed from assisting coaches to becoming the Head of Performance Analysis for the senior women’s team while also supporting training sessions. The practical experience, combined with USW’s cutting-edge facilities, has been invaluable.
This journey has not only developed my technical skills but has also made me more adaptable and confident. My ultimate goal is to return to India and contribute to the country’s football development. My advice? Embrace the challenges—every struggle makes you stronger.
