The University’s Honorary Awards Scheme celebrates the significant achievements of individuals who have made an outstanding contribution in their chosen field(s) of activity, and have a connection with the University’s heritage and mission.
Each year staff are invited to submit nominations for Honorary Doctorates and Fellowships to be awarded at the University’s Graduation Ceremonies. Nominations are considered by the Conferments Committee, which meets annually. The Committee is Chaired by the Vice Chancellor and has both staff and Governor representation.
The Governance Unit is responsible for co-ordinating and managing the University’s risk management process.
Risk management is the identification of risks to enable them to be evaluated, prioritised and managed. The University maintains a risk register which is compiled using assessments from each of the varying activities across the University and looks at opportunities to maximize potential and minimize risk so that, wherever possible, risk to the University’s strategic aims are reduced and/or managed.
The risk registers are submitted to a number of University Committees for review and presented to the Board of Governors.
The Governance Unit is responsible for co-ordinating and managing the University’s internal audit programme.
Annually, the University agrees a programme of internal audits, which provide an independent review of different areas of business across the University. These areas are aligned with the University’s risk register and contribute to the University’s risk management.
The audits facilitate the identification of risks and opportunities and seek assurances that the institution is operating effectively. Each year a follow up review is conducted to evaluate developments implemented following the audit.
The Audit reports are submitted to the Audit Committee for review and presented to the Board of Governors.
