Community Engagement

The Community of Expertise: Community Engagement (CommExp: Engage) was founded, with the support of CELT, in June 2019. Community Engagement is something that many staff at USW are already engaged in but this initiative enhances awareness of the extent to which other USW colleagues are involved and myriad ways in which this ‘community engagement’ ensues. Partnerships between students, alumni and external stakeholders, enable us to embrace the civic engagement agenda.  Above and beyond that, it connects academia with the ‘world outside the window’, broadening horizons for students and academics and engendering ground-up, routes of progression for the members of our local communities. Aside from strategic objectives, it is simply a good thing to do.

There is already a varied network of collaborative partners and a number of projects under way, across the entire university. The focus of these is frequently on community wellbeing, in line with the Welsh Government’s Prosperity for All strategy document, as well as developing effective, multi-partner solutions to ‘real world’ challenges.

The members of CommExp: Engage are always keen to learn from other educators’ experiences. So, If you're involved in Community Engagement, please join this community and share your experiences. Your knowledge could hold the solution to somebody’s problem, or spark a new idea in someone’s mind. It may inspire you to work in new ways and collaborate with other staff in unexpected ways.
