Here are some ways you can make the most of your budget and save money.

If you need any advice, feel free to contact the Student Money Advice Team.

  • Budget at the start of each term and spread your money over the term- remember to include travel home, birthdays and socialising.
  • Maximise your income – get a part time job, sell unused/unwanted items.
  • Review your bank statements - are you paying for subscriptions you aren’t using?
  • Put a list together before going shopping and buy own brands instead of branded products.
  • Batch cook and freeze the rest – it’s cheaper and saves cooking from scratch.
  • Don’t buy books new – choose second-hand and library editions.
  • Only buy what you need – avoid luxury spending and impulse buys, if you need to make a purchase for an occasion but know you will never use it again, why not look at renting instead of buying.
  • Shop around to find the best deals.
  • Change your bill payment dates so they leave your account just after payday.
