We have three vibrant campuses around the capital city of Wales; Cardiff. Here, you can enjoy a high standard of living at a low cost. You’ll be surrounded by the best of South Wales’ cities, coast and countryside, and we’re only 2 hours from London via train. Most of our 500 + courses are recognised or accredited by professional organisations and are all taught with employability in mind. That’s why 96% of USW graduates are in Employment and/or Further Study 15 months after graduation (Graduate Outcomes Survey 2021/22).


Everything you need to know

As a self-funding international student from Ghana, you are eligible for a scholarship of:

  • £2,500 per year for undergraduate students
  • £2,500 per year for postgraduate students 

This applies for courses starting in September 2024 and February 2025. You will be automatically considered for one of these awards when we receive your application.

  • Foundation Years are available to students who don't meet the academic requirements for entry directly onto year 1 of a Bachelor degree.
  • Students who have a good level of English (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent) will be considered for our Faculty Foundation Years.

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Undergraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:

  • Senior School Certificate grade C or Credit pass in English Language
  • GCSE/A Level English Language grade C or above
  • IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each band)

Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language courses.

Academic Qualifications

We recognise the WAEC and SSCE examining boards:

  • Students with 5 or more West African Senior School (WAEC/NECO) subjects at B3 or above including Mathematics and one Science, can be considered for direct undergraduate degree entry
  • Students with a National Diploma will be considered for undergraduate degree programmes
  • Students with a Higher National Diploma or Polytechnic diplomas can be considered for advanced entry onto certain undergraduate degree programmes
  • Students with A Levels will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate degree programmes in line with the standard UCAS tariff

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Postgraduate study. The University of South Wales also recognises the following English language qualifications:

  • Senior School Certificate grade C or Credit pass in English Language
  • GCSE/O Level English at grade C or above
  • IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 with at least a 5.5 in each component. 

Please note that some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the University’s standard requirements.

Academic Qualifications

  • Students with an undergraduate degree with second class or higher will be considered for direct entry onto a postgraduate programme.
  • Applicants with a Masters degree can be considered for entry to Ph.D. studies as long as they also have a suitable research proposal.
