The University of South Wales is a popular choice among International students and we have been welcoming students from Ghana to our campuses for many years.

Popular courses amongst Ghanaian students are our postgraduate courses in business and management, engineering, safety and health and environmental management.

Students from Ghana appreciate the scholarships offered by the University and have enjoyed the high standard of living but relatively low cost of living that South Wales offers. The University offers the following scholarships for self-funding international students. You will be automatically considered for one of these awards when we receive your application. For more information visit the international scholarships page.

  • International Academic Scholarship of £1,500 per year for undergraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £2,000 for postgraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £1,500 for MBA students

Foundation Entry Requirements

  • Applicants with five passes at grade C or Credit at Senior School Certificate (including Maths and English) can be considered for our Faculty Foundation Years
  • Applicants who do not have a grade C in English from the Senior School Certificate but do have IELTS 5.0 overall will be considered for our International Foundation Year (Intensive English) before progressing to their Bachelor degree.


Undergraduate Entry Requirements

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Undergraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:

  • Senior School Certificate grade C or Credit pass in English Language
  • GCSE/A Level English Language grade C or above
  • IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each band)

Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language courses.


Academic Qualifications

We recognise the WAEC and SSCE examining boards:

  • Students who have the Senior School Certificate with six A grades can be considered for direct undergraduate degree entry
  • Students with a National Diploma will be considered for undergraduate degree programmes
  • Students with a Higher National Diploma or Polytechnic diplomas can be considered for advanced entry onto certain undergraduate degree programmes
  • Students with A Levels will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate degree programmes in line with the standard UCAS tariff

Postgraduate Entry Requirements

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Postgraduate study. The University of South Wales also recognises the following English language qualifications:

  • Senior School Certificate grade C or Credit pass in English Language
  • GCSE/O Level English at grade C or above
  • Postgraduate Study: IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 with at least a 5.5 in each component. Please note that some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the University’s standard requirements. Please see the course page for further information.

Academic Qualifications

  • Students with an undergraduate degree with second class or higher will be considered for direct entry onto a postgraduate programme.
  • Applicants with a Masters degree can be considered for entry to Ph.D. studies as long as they also have a suitable research proposal.
