‘’The highlight of my time here at USW was definitely meeting new people.’’

Hi, I'm Aakshi Sharma. I am 21 years old and I am from India. I did a 3 year undergraduate course at USW, Treforest campus and have now finally graduated with a first class degree in BA (Hons) Business and Management. I found out about the University of South Wales through a friend who studied here and through google of course.

The highlight of my time here at USW was definitely meeting new people. Being an international student and travelling all the way from India when I was 18 and settling in the United Kingdom was a big step for me. Meeting new people, understanding the new culture, adjusting in society and getting the opportunity to learn from the top lecturers are one of the best things that happened to me. Contrary to popular opinion, my best memories studying at USW are doing the group projects in class. They gave me a chance to effectively interact with a wide range if people and polish my communication skills.

My advice for international students

A person raises their hand while listening to a colleague's presentation in a conference room with a large screen

Be brave and don’t be afraid to try new things

Arrive with a positive attitude

Embrace your new environment

Push yourself out of your comfort zone

Most importantly – have fun!

MY BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT AT USW IS LANDING THE INTERNSHIP AT COMMONWEALTH GAMES TEAM WALES.

BA (Hons) Business and Management

Business student, Aakshi, stood smiling at the camera.

I was the Marketing and Events Officer at Team Wales and worked with them for over a year. As I have a keen interest in both marketing and event, the internship allowed me to gain experience within both fields. This role offered me incredible hands-on experience and challenged me to perform and deliver at the highest level. The skills I acquired from the internship complemented my studies where I gained theoretical knowledge in both events and marketing and allowed me to put it all into practice. With a background in sport, I was instantly attracted to the role with Commonwealth Games as in my eyes, there was no bigger (or better!) stage for me to showcase my abilities. Moving forward with the internship, I got the opportunity to work closely with the Birmingham 2022 Games Organizing Committee. And now I get to be part of the prestigious Team Wales legacy!

University has allowed me to push myself out of my comfort zone and has taught me that change isn’t always a bad thing. Most importantly, university has taught me to always be myself and say ‘yes’ to experiences.
