Fitzone Facilities

Our FitZone provides a range of fitness classes, instructional courses and gyms that are suitable for any level of fitness.

Based on our Treforest Campus in Pontypridd, FitZone is open throughout the year and accessible to staff, students and members of the public. FitZone offers over 31 classes a week during term time, ranging from hot yoga and kettlebells to Les Mills.

The main hall has six badminton courts, and the gym has over 50 cardio vascular exercise machines plus weight training equipment. There are squash courts, a studio for dance and martial arts, and a strength room. See our facilities overview for more details.

USW Sport Membership and Prices

Whether you are a current student, member of staff or public, we offer a variety of USW sport membership programmes that give you access to our sport facilities at the best prices.

Health and Fitness Classes

We offer a variety of health and fitness classes that take place each week at our on-campus Sport Centre in Treforest. 

There is something for everyone with classes ranging from circuits and HIIT to kettle bells and yoga. Classes are open to everyone and are discounted to USW Sport Membership holders - Free access to All Inclusive Members or £5 for Gym Only Members and Non Members.

How do I sign up?

Members can book online or by telephone up to 7 days in advance. Non-members can book by telephone, up to 24 hours in advance. We recommend booking classes as early as possible as some of them are very popular.

A 30-minute class, focusing on the core, including lots of abdominal exercises. The instructor will have you working muscles you didn't know you had.

If you’re looking for a total body workout that will challenge your fitness and burn fat, this is the class for you. Timed periods that involve a combination of bodyweight and free weight exercises that will help boost your strength and endurance. This class will be sure to get your heart rate up and help to improve your fitness and you will never get bored with instructors using a varied format and exercises from week to week.

Boxing Fitness is an effective form of cross training. Boxfit is a cardiovascular workout with classes lasting between 45 to 55 mins. It is based on the training used for boxing so expect skipping and boxing drills including footwork, abdominal workouts, and combinations – all focusing on fitness and toning mixed with bags of fun.

Circuits is a classic exercise class that has remained extremely popular because it is so effective. It is a great way to stay fit and remain in shape, using short bursts of high-energy work with rest periods built in. Using various equipment and your own bodyweight.

Hatha yoga is a general category that includes most yoga styles, this class includes the practice of yoga postures and breathing exercises which help bring peace to the mind and body, preparing the body for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation.

This class is 30 minutes of pure kettlebell training to improve fitness, strength, power, core strength, mobility and balance whilst stripping away body fat.

Spin is a vigorous class using stationary bikes which focuses on strength, endurance, intervals and recovery. It is a fast and ever-changing class. Instructor led riders work out together to the pounding beat of music; the class burns calories and builds muscle.

Spin Blast is a fastpaced 30 minute spin HiiT workout. Expect to work fast to pumping beats to ensure maximum calorie burn.

Dance yourself fit and in great shape with this classic and ever-popular dance-based, energetic workout, set to vibrant Latin American music. Zumba is the world’s fastest growing fitness class that has easy to follow moves to create a dynamic and exciting workout.

Les Mills at Fitzone

Take your workout to the next level with one of the world’s leading workout programmes Les Mills, designed to increase muscle activation, maximise workouts and burn calories faster. We offer a number of different programmes including:

Instructional Courses

We offer several instructional courses each week that are designed to help you learn and develop new skills. Instructional courses are a great way to get involved or try new sports and our courses range from Pole Fitness to Squash - there is something for everyone. 

Each available course runs for four weeks and must be booked in advance. Classes are open to everyone and are discounted to USW Sport Membership holders. 


How do I sign up? 

You book yourself on by visiting reception and associated costs depend on your membership level. We recommend booking in advance as some of the courses fill up very quickly. Please note: Limited spaces are available on each course. Contact us to check availability and confirm your booking.
