Fitzone Facilities


Our FitZone provides a range of fitness classes, instructional courses and gyms that are suitable for any level of fitness.

Based on our Treforest Campus in Pontypridd, FitZone is open throughout the year and accessible to staff, students and members of the public. FitZone offers over 31 classes a week during term time, ranging from hot yoga and kettlebells to Les Mills.

The main hall has six badminton courts, and the gym has over 50 cardio vascular exercise machines plus weight training equipment. There are squash courts, a studio for dance and martial arts, and a strength room. See our facilities overview for more details.

Whether you are a current student, member of staff or public, we offer a variety of USW sport membership programmes that give you access to our sport facilities at the best prices.

Health and Fitness Classes

We offer a variety of health and fitness classes that take place each week at our on-campus Sport Centre in Treforest. 

All Memberships will include full access to Health and Fitness Classes.

How do I sign up?

Members can book online or by telephone up to 7 days in advance. Non-members can book by telephone, up to 24 hours in advance. We recommend booking classes as early as possible as some of them are very popular.

Using our hi-tech stationary bikes, this class is a high intensity workout designed to take your cardiovascular fitness to the next level!

When: Monday, 17:00-17:45 and Thursday, 12:30-13:15

This class is perfect if you are looking to improve your core strength and conditioning, breathing and full body awareness.

When: Monday, 18:15-19:15 and Wednesday 18:00-19:00

A mixture of barbell tempo and strength work with high intensity training. The perfect introduction to barbell-based training.

When: Tuesday, 12:30-13:15

If you are looking to improve your strength and cardiovascular fitness, this is the class for you. Prioritising the main compound lifts and finishing with a specific functional fitness workout. In a small group format.

When: Tuesday, 17:00-17:45

A high intensity full body blast! Varying between equipment and bodyweight workouts.

When: Wednesday, 12:30- 13:00

The perfect mix of strength, power and conditioning class! Lead in a circuit style.

When: Thursday, 17:00-17:45

A mid paced class with the aim to unite the breath, body and mind through the asanas or postures practiced. Focusing on breath, controlled static movements and stretching.

When: Friday, 12:30-13:15

A short sharp functional fitness workout! Combining cardio with our state-of-the-art kit and classic functional fitness movements. No class is ever the same! In a small group format.

When: Friday, 16:30-17:00


Instructional Courses

We offer several instructional courses each week that are designed to help you learn and develop new skills. Instructional courses are a great way to get involved or try new sports and our courses range from Pole Fitness to Squash - there is something for everyone. 

Each available course runs for four weeks and must be booked in advance. Classes are open to everyone and are discounted to USW Sport Membership holders. 

How do I sign up? 

You book yourself on by visiting reception and associated costs depend on your membership level. We recommend booking in advance as some of the courses fill up very quickly. Please note: Limited spaces are available on each course. Contact us to check availability and confirm your booking.
