Turning creativity into a career

USW has given me the chance to work on real industry projects, connect with professionals, and explore different aspects of design.

Why I chose USW

I’ve always been a creative person, and studying Interior Design felt like a natural choice. From a young age, I loved experimenting with drawing and working on small projects around the house. In college, a project introduced me to interior design, and I realised I could combine creativity with the practical side of designing spaces.

When researching universities, USW stood out to me. The location in Cardiff—a capital city that isn’t overwhelming but has a unique charm with its arcades, coffee shops, and creative atmosphere—was a big factor. Attending an Open Day confirmed my decision, as I saw first-hand the facilities, support, and opportunities available.

Real-world experience and advice for students

One of the highlights of my course has been the chance to work on live briefs with real companies. Right now, we’re collaborating with Orange Box, a leading office furniture design company. Industry professionals regularly visit to offer guidance, which has been invaluable for networking and gaining insight into different career paths.

The variety within the course has kept me engaged. One day, we’re designing a table, and the next, we’re planning a full restaurant interior. My advice to future students? Be passionate and prepared—university life can be demanding, but if you love what you do, you’ll thrive.
