Living in Cardiff enhances my experience on this course because it has many live music venues.

Finding the right fit and gaining real experience

I chose the BSc (Hons) Sound, Lighting and Live Event Technology course after a random work experience opportunity made me realise how much I enjoy working hands-on under pressure to produce the best result I’m able—and being proud of the end result. I got to talk to someone who’d been in the live events industry for decades about his experiences, and I really liked what I heard. The course looked to be a very good mix of practical and theoretical learning that works best for me and would cover most of the areas I’m interested in.

There have been plenty of opportunities to engage with and network with industry. I work at Cardiff Students’ Union and get to work on both in-house events and external tours, getting to know the people and experience the workflow. The networking opportunities varied from going to SKY in Osterley to attending Women in Industry events locally.

I VISION MIXED THE MUSIC VIDEOS PUT OUT FOR IMMERSED FESTIVAL 2025 AND THEY ARE DOING PARTICULARLY WELL FOR OUR EFFORTS.

Festival highlights and future plans

Living in Cardiff enhances my experience on this course because Cardiff has many live music venues, houses BBC Central Square, and both large and small theatre venues, such as the Millennium Centre on the doorstep. It’s a city full of live performance energy, which makes it a great place to study this subject.

I vision mixed the music videos put out for Immersed Festival 2025, and they are doing particularly well for our efforts. In the future, I’d like to freelance in industry, with a preference for working on festivals. My advice to anyone thinking about studying this course? Do it—but only if you’re willing to put in the effort. It’s not an easy course and requires more legwork than you originally expect.
