Welsh Language Opportunities

  • Academic opportunities are provided in a variety of subjects from Performance, Education, Quantity Surveying to Police Science.

  • The University of South Wales offers scholarships worth £1,000 to first year students who wish to study at least 40 credits through the medium of Welsh in the fields of performance, surveying, business, primary learning and policing.

  • All Welsh speaking students from across the University can study an additional short module (worth 5 credits) to increase employment opportunities by equipping you to work in Welsh or bilingual organisations upon graduation.

Why Study Bilingually?

The best of both worlds

You will have the opportunity to socialize and work with students who come from all over the world as part of the main English-medium lectures and then work closely with a smaller group while doing specific things in Welsh.

Become a bilingual specialist

The Welsh-medium provision available on some of our courses is aimed at giving you the opportunity to develop into bilingual experts within the areas in question.

Education from subject matter experts

When studying a degree through the medium of Welsh and English you are taught by experts in your field. In fact, sometimes, you will benefit even more, as they are the main academics and experts in the subject you will be studying.

Scholarship schemes

We offer scholarships to students who study part of their course through the medium of Welsh. The University is also part of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol scholarship scheme.

Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol

The Coleg Cymraeg creates training and study opportunities in Welsh by working with further education colleges, universities, apprenticeship providers and employers. We inspire and encourage everyone to use their Welsh language skills.

The Coleg’s aim is to build a Welsh and bilingual education and training system which is open to everyone and to develop a bilingual workforce.
