Empowering Women, Building Leaders

Research across Wales and the UK consistently shows that women-only leadership programmes create vital spaces for growth, confidence, and connection. These environments offer psychological safety, allowing women to explore leadership on their own terms, highlighting how this fosters not only individual progression but collective empowerment.

In Her Words

In Her Words is a monthly series of 60-minute lunchtime conversations with influential women leaders across Wales. Open to all - not just programme participants - these sessions offer a unique opportunity to hear directly from women shaping the future of business, education, politics, and community development.

Hosted by leadership expert Pam Heneberry, each conversation explores the guest’s leadership journey, challenges, and insights. As part of the session, each guest will also recommend a book, podcast, or TED Talk that has inspired or influenced them - contributions that will form the foundation of a growing leadership resource library.

In 2016, USW launched its internal Women’s Development Programme to support women in building leadership skills, growing personally and professionally, and expanding their networks. The programme was created to address the barriers women often face in leadership and to provide practical interventions to help overcome them.
