Degree Apprenticeships

Engineering Degree Apprenticeships

The University of South Wales, in partnership with the Welsh Government, is pleased to be offering Engineering Degree Apprenticeships. These opportunities combine work-based learning with studying a degree part-time at university.

Degree Apprenticeships Current Vacancies

Apprentices can achieve a degree, learn professional skills and gain industry knowledge whilst companies have an excellent opportunity to upskill existing employees or recruit and train new employees at degree level.

Degree Apprenticeships can also improve the competitiveness, growth and development of local businesses.

To follow our Degree Apprenticeship programme, apprentices must be in employment or will need to apply directly to an employer for a Degree Apprentice role. Apprentices will need to discuss applying for this course with their employer and the employer will need to contact us directly.

Our Degree Apprenticeship courses are funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW), apprentices can achieve a degree debt free whilst earning a salary.

Apprentices will start their degree at an entry point that is most appropriate to them based on their existing qualifications and experience. All learning will take place on Treforest campus and upon successful completion apprentices will graduate from the University of South Wales.

Apprentices will benefit from the very best support on offer. The team operate an open door policy and are always on hand to offer guidance and support to apprentices.

We also offer BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering and BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship vacancies. Both run for five years and include two days in University per week. To find about either of these vacancies, contact us.

Subject to existing qualifications or experience, Degree Apprentices may start part-way through the course - for example, a candidate with a relevant HND could gain entry onto year four or five of the apprenticeship.

EMPLOYERS INFORMATION

By working in partnership with USW, you can use degree apprenticeships to grow your business, boost productivity and plan for the future.

Strengthen the skills of your current workforce or provide students with the opportunity to be an apprentice in your workplace, through tailored programmes that combine work experience with academic teaching.

Our Degree Apprenticeships offer employers the opportunity to nurture their own talent. Employers can choose to upskill existing apprentices or recruit and train new apprentices at degree level.

Employers can utilise Welsh Government funding available for the degree course and only cover the cost of the apprentice's salary.

The employer, apprentice and University will sign an Apprenticeship Learning Agreement which outlines the role, responsibilities and commitments of all parties.

Our dedicated team will support the employer and apprentice throughout their journey. We will advise on the best entry point for the apprentice based on their existing qualifications and experience and assess the individual’s specific learning and development needs.

As part of our partnership, we will provide updates on the apprentice's progress and we'll offer opportunities to meet throughout their time on the programme.

Get in touch to discuss the range of apprenticeship opportunities at USW, or if you would like a member of our team to evaluate your work-based learning needs.
