Forensic science is a broad subject area that draws on many scientific fields. It requires skilled individuals to assist with enquiries of a criminal or civil nature. From gathering traces at a crime scene to analysing specimens for drug abuse, firearms or explosives, no two days will be the same.

The only way to gain the broad and dynamic skillset needed to solve crimes is through practical experience. Our Forensic Investigation BSc prepares you for action in the CSI world as you investigate simulated crime scenes, use industry standard lab equipment and give evidence as an expert witness.

You’ll develop your scientific skills and knowledge before going on to gain practical skills in volume crime scene examination, analysis of forensic evidence, and courtroom simulations. You will learn about the structure and processes that regulate the criminal justice system, and the law associated with criminal investigation. You’ll undertake simulated investigations in our Crime Scene Training Facility, ranging from domestic burglaries and vehicle examinations to more complex scenes like arson and homicide. You’ll study several cases and learn about the forensic techniques used while being able to critically appraise and evaluate forensic approaches.

Accredited by The Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, the Forensic Science BSc teaches you how to apply a range of advanced science to criminal investigation. The skills you develop using industry-standard equipment are a springboard to a variety of careers across scientific fields.

The Forensic Science course, which has a strong focus on employability, looks at the whole process from crime scene to court. You’ll learn standard practices and techniques used in crime scene investigation, as well as laboratory analysis of evidence and its interpretation. You’ll study specialist branches of forensic science, including criminalistics, forensic chemistry, forensic biology, anthropology, fire investigation and toxicology.
Whether you have a science background or not, our courses develop you to become an experienced and competent graduate from one of our accredited Forensics degrees.
